Cabin Types Explained

Inside, Oceanview, Balcony or Suite?

Choosing the right stateroom, and the right spot on the ship, makes a big difference.

Inside

The best value on board, with no window. Great for travelers who are rarely in the room, or who sleep best in total darkness.

Best for: Value seekers and busy explorers

Oceanview

A window or porthole with natural light and a view of the sea, without the cost of a balcony.

Best for: Travelers who want daylight on a budget

Balcony

Your own private veranda for sunrise coffee and sunset views. On scenic itineraries like Alaska and Europe, it’s often worth it.

Best for: Couples, scenery lovers, celebrations

Suite

More space, upgraded amenities and, on many lines, a private suite area with its own perks.

Best for: Special occasions and families who want room to spread out

Location Matters

  • Midship and lower decks feel the least motion, a smart pick if you’re worried about seasickness.
  • Check above and below. A cabin under the pool deck or a nightclub can be noisy late at night.
  • Not every balcony is equal. Some have partial or obstructed views, which is why I check the deck plans for you.
  • Connecting and family cabins sell out early for holidays and school breaks.

Karen’s Cabin Tips

My favorite spot on any ship is midship on a middle deck: you feel the least motion, you’re a short walk from the elevators and stairs, and dining and entertainment are right in the middle of it all. I always book a balcony or higher, and I’ve loved the extra room of a Princess mini-suite. Honestly, if I could afford a suite every time, I would. A girl can dream, and I’m happy to help you live that dream!
