Lake Tahoe Winter Getaways
Deep blue water, snowy peaks and ski resorts on both sides of the lake.
In winter, Lake Tahoe is a postcard: deep blue water, snow-covered peaks and pine forests dusted white. Heavenly Mountain Resort says there are more than a dozen ski areas around the lake, from gentle beginner hills to famously steep terrain.
Heavenly spans the California and Nevada state line, with views of the lake from its slopes. Palisades Tahoe, in Olympic Valley, hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics, and Northstar California on the north side of the lake is known for its village with an ice rink. Off the slopes, there’s snowshoeing, sledding, cozy dinners and lake views everywhere you look.
North Shore and South Shore feel very different, so where you stay matters. I’ll help you pick the right side of the lake, the resort that fits your skiing (or not skiing), and lodging that makes winter easy.
