Napa Valley Wine Country Getaways

Vineyards, rolling hills, world-class wine and long, lovely lunches.

Napa Valley is wine country at its most beautiful: vineyard rows climbing rolling hills, oak trees, and small towns built around food and wine. Visit Napa Valley counts more than 400 wineries open for tastings and over 90 tasting rooms, so the hardest part is deciding where to go.

The valley has five towns, Calistoga, St. Helena, Yountville, Napa and American Canyon, each with its own personality. Highway 29 runs up the west side of the valley floor, and the quieter Silverado Trail runs up the east side. Visit Napa Valley suggests two or three winery visits a day, since most tastings take at least 90 minutes, and I’ll help you plan a pace that leaves time to enjoy the view.

Beyond the tasting rooms, you can float over the vineyards in a hot air balloon, dine aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train, or book a table at one of the valley’s celebrated restaurants. Napa is about 50 miles from San Francisco, so it pairs beautifully with a few days in the city.
