Breckenridge, Colorado Mountain Getaways
A historic mountain town with green peaks in summer and great skiing in winter.
Breckenridge is a real mountain town, founded in 1859 during the Colorado gold rush, with one of the largest historic districts in Colorado. The town says more than 200 of its structures are on the National Register of Historic Places, and its Main Street is full of shops, restaurants and sunny patios.
It’s beautiful in summer. The peaks turn green, wildflowers come out and the days are made for hiking, biking and lunch outside. In winter, Breckenridge Ski Resort spreads across five peaks with 2,908 skiable acres. The free BreckConnect Gondola links town with Peak 7 and Peak 8 in winter and again in summer, so you can often leave the car parked.
The town sits at about 9,600 feet, so Breckenridge recommends drinking plenty of water and allowing a day or two to adjust to the altitude. I’ll help you choose the right season, lodging close to Main Street or the slopes, and the activities that fit your group.
