Oahu is where most first-timers fall in love with Hawaii, and Honolulu is the capital city right on this island, not a separate place. Waikiki gives you that classic beach-and-hotel skyline, Diamond Head is a short sunrise hike, and Pearl Harbor is a powerful half-day you’ll remember. Shopping, restaurants and nightlife are easy here in a way the quieter islands aren’t.
I love Oahu when you want a mix of beach days and “we actually did something today.” We can base you in Waikiki for walkability, or look at resorts a little farther out if you want a calmer vibe with easy day trips. No passport needed, and flights from Texas are straightforward.
